Following a social media post regarding the cancellation of after-prom parties, the government has sought to reassure the public amid concerns over threats of violence.
Yesterday the Police said they had not advised that any parties be cancelled.
“The organisers of the after-prom parties had discussed potential safety concerns and presented information to the Isle of Man Constabulary,” a government statement said. “Following an assessment by police, the risk and level of threat was deemed to be low from a police perspective.”
However, the organising committee decided to cancel the events.

“The organising committee were reluctant to continue with the after-prom parties as they could not manage the risk at a level they were comfortable with given the information they had,” the statement added.
The decision was communicated to students and parents on Tuesday.
“We understand that this was a difficult decision,” the government said.
Police confirmed some parents had raised concerns.
“Following this, the police and some schools were contacted by parents concerned about the threat of potential disruption and disorder at the after-prom parties, as well as the proms themselves.”
Authorities emphasised that the issue only relates to after-parties, not school proms.
The police urged anyone with information to come forward: “If any person has received threats, or knows of anyone who has been threatened, they should contact police on 631212.” Anonymous tips can be made via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
