One of the island’s best events of the year gets underway at 8am tomorrow morning as the Parish Walk returns.
The 85-mile endurance test will see walkers seek to complete a lap of the island’s parishes inside 24 hours.
Defending champion Callum Gawne will wear the number one bib this year after he claimed his maiden win in a time of 15 hours 49 minutes and 49 seconds.
The Onchan man goes into this year as the favourite and told Charlie Morrey he was “feeling pretty good” ahead of the race and “better than I was at this time last year”.
Despite this, he hasn’t been doing competitive walking due to a lingering shin issue, but said with that cleared up, he has his eyes on a strong performance and is going for the win.
Sammy Bowden and Tristan Shields crossed in joint second last year with Bowden sealing her third women’s title.
In the u21 race to Peel, Robert Farnworth was first, with Connor Cain second and Lottie Stennett and Madison McMullan crossed together to come third overall and joint first u21 females.
While some will be seeking to improve on times and clinch titles, many walkers will be looking to raise money for charity and hundreds not taking part will line the route to celebrate, cheer on the walkers and offer refreshments.
