Harris Praised for Performance

Two former British number ones have praised Billy Harris for his performance at the US Open.

Harris lost to Canada’s Felix Auger-Aliassime in straight sets late on Tuesday night.

Speaking on Sky Sports, former Junior Wimbledon winner Laura Robson said: “Billy’s got a massive ball strike when he goes after it, and it was nice to see him have a bit more belief in finishing the point at the net and going for a bit more than he usually does.

“I think we saw Billy at a level probably above his ranking today.”

Top 100

Former British number one Tim Henman added: “We see the potential. We saw his ball striking capabilities. If he plays like that consistently, he is going to be in the top 100.

“He was just unloading on the forehand playing with that type of freedom. Billy Harris was averaging 86 in that third set. So he’s just absolutely hitting rockets out there.”

Felix

Speaking after their match, Auger-Aliassime said: “”It is a good win for me. I’m pleased to have got it done in three sets because he [Billy Harris] is a tough opponent.

“He has been getting better every year and he is a player with a lot of strengths, so it was a good first-round win for me.”
