The Isle of Man Orienteering Klubb are running a spring evening ‘Come & Try’ orienteering activity at Garey ny Cloie Gardens and Wood, St John’s on May 17.
Registration, start and finish is from the grass area beside DEFA HQ building and car parking area and will be signposted from the car park.
Registration is from 6:10pm – 6:50pm with individual start times between 6:20pm – 7:00pm.
All participants must report to the finish by 8:15pm at the latest.
Orienteering activities
There are 2 orienteering activities options to choose from, which are suitable for people new to the activity and also for those who have undertaken orienteering before.
Activity Option 1: A 1-hour free order activity, which involves participants locating as many of the orange & white control flags marked on their map in any order.
Activity Option 2: A Linear course activity, which involves participants having to visit control flag locations marked on their map in a specific order.
For both activities participants have to pin-punch their scorecard to prove they have visited the control flag site.
Opportunity to participate
If you have not undertaken orienteering before this is an opportunity to come along and try this family friendly recreational activity in a small location.
The two activities are suitable for people all ages and participants can take part as individuals, families or groups of friends.
Children must be under the supervision of an adult.
Participants can walk or run, and suitable footwear and clothing must be worn for weather and underfoot conditions.
Guidance can be given by Orienteering Klubb members before you begin if you are new to this activity.
