The Chief Minister has confirmed that the Government’s first Efficiencies Programme annual report will be published by the end of May.
This faced sharp criticism in Tynwald by Ramsey MHK Lawrie Hooper over the lack of detail behind its savings claims.
Answering a question from Mr Hooper, Alfred Cannan said the report will show £4.267 million in savings in the first year, including £2 million recurring.
He said a full appendix will set out the projects that delivered those savings.
But Hooper said the quarterly reports published so far provide “no information whatsoever” to substantiate the headline figures.
“The quarterly reports make bold claims about savings being made, but actually provide no information as to what they were, how they’ve been calculated, or how they’ve been validated,” he told the court.
“All we’re seeing about the broader government programme is headline numbers that are not being substantiated by any information whatsoever.”
The Chief Minister said the detail would be included in the forthcoming annual report and declined to confirm whether the savings figure includes improved income collection, saying this would also be explained in the report.
