Manx National Heritage has released the schedule of events and activities for this year’s Heritage Open Days festival.
This is the 16th time the festival is happening, and it’s all about giving people access to historic buildings and cultural sites.
Over two weekends, October 3 to 5 and 10 to 12, venues across the island will open their doors, including many that aren’t usually open to the public.

“The diversity of experiences, themes and locations on offer makes Heritage Open Days a truly special occasion in the annual calendar and our annual festival thrives thanks to the generosity of venues, individuals, and community groups,” says Connie Lovel, Chief Executive of Manx National Heritage.
“We extend our sincere thanks to the dedicated and inspiring contributors and volunteers who generously give their time and expertise to bring the Island’s heritage to life – and to all who come to explore and celebrate it.”
From Viking defences and hidden artifacts to exhibitions and guided walks, the festival invites everyone to connect with our island’s heritage.
Heritage
Some of the highlights of the festival include:
- A celebration of Susie Cooper’s legacy at the museum and archive in Douglas;
- A guided tour of King William’s College, complete with tea in the Barrovian Hall;
- Unique guided walks, including a walking tour to Killabrega, a fascinating tour tracing the history of coastal defence of the west coast, and Great Walls of Laxey trail;
- A walk through Knock-e-Dhooney exploring glaciation, keeills, and a Viking ship burial.
