Manx Care’s operational plan for this year’s TT 2026 is on track to be signed off, the Minister for Health and Social Care has said.
Claire Christian told the House of Keys that additional capacity for the five-week period includes enhanced trauma team staffing, extra orthopaedic surgeons, mutual aid from UK paramedics, and access to specialist medical transfers.
Julie Edge expressed concern that Manx Care appeared to be seeking additional resources, saying: “The funding for TT has always been part of the budget. It’s never been an extra funding.
“Can the Minister commit to looking at what Manx Care have done since their inception?”
Ms Christian said: “If the honourable member thinks that we should be not progressing safety and standards, and they should remain stand still back to 10 years ago, then I think I’ll be very, very worried.
“We really must rely on the clinical advice of what support is needed for these races to go ahead.”
Ms Christian also confirmed a 12-space emergency department Clinical Decision Unit is being created, along with a modular unit for Ramsey Cottage Hospital.
Treasury approved a project development fund on April 1 for ED redevelopment work, with a healthcare planning partner expected by the end of June.
