The Department of Education is waiting on options to improve safety outside Arbory School.
Jason Moorhouse asked Daphne Caine when the last safety assessment was carried out into the arrivals and departure of children from the school.
Mrs Caine told members that the last formal traffic assessment was undertaken in 2018, but said officers met at the school in early January this year to review the matter again.
Mr Moorhouse asked how quickly the findings could be moved forward and potentially actioned.
Mrs Caine said she was expecting various options to come forward. “I hope there will be a paper in the department by the end of next month,” she said.
Tim Glover MHK asked what options had been discussed at the January meeting, but the minister said she was not aware of all the options being considered until the department receives the paper from officers.
Pressed on whether anything could be in place by the start of the next academic year in September, Mrs Caine said the department “will move as quickly as it’s possible, once the options have been considered”.
