The Health Minister has promised “tangible change” following a British Medical Association survey that found concerns about leadership and management among doctors working in Manx Care.
The BMA survey found that fewer than a quarter of doctors at Manx Care would recommend it as a place to work, a new survey has found.
Claire Christian told Tynwald the “culture of care barometer” reflected the views of 89 doctors and that she had asked for the results to be “reviewed in full, alongside an analysis of the findings from the past four years, so that we can secure meaningful and measurable improvement”.

The survey found that 38% of respondents did not feel supported by their line manager.
In the chamber, Speaker Juan Watterson suggested the issue could relate to senior medical leadership rather than simply a divide between medics and civil servants.
Ms Christian agreed, saying: “The honourable speaker is absolutely correct. There are line managers. Obviously, some doctors are the line managers of other doctors.”
She added that it was “really important that we get down to the detail and really understand what the survey is hinting or alluding to, whether it is doctor on doctor, or whether it is more senior leadership that the issue lays with”.
The minister said Manx Care was facilitating workshops with clinicians to examine the findings and agree practical actions. The results will also be considered by the department at its board meeting later this month.
“I am determined that the staff feedback leads to tangible change, not simply to another report,” Ms Christian said.
