Manx Care has reported substantial improvements across its workforce culture, according to initial analysis of the latest British Medical Association (BMA) Culture of Care Barometer.
The BMA’s latest release says only 25% of doctors who responded would recommend working at Noble’s.
Despite this, Manx Care says the survey reveals positive progress in 27 out of 30 key themes compared to last year. Similar numbers of medical staff took part, with most reporting they feel respected by colleagues and managers.
“Doctors feel their Manx Care colleagues are friendly and that they can rely on each other in the tough moments,” a spokesperson said.
The majority also feel able to ask for help and understand their role expectations.
Improvements
The results indicate staff successes are being recognised.
However, participants consistently called for “more constructive feedback, more positive role-models, more support in their development and more training opportunities.”
Manx Care states these areas are already improving, linking progress to a recently implemented clinical leadership model.
While some “legacy negative feelings” from the 2021 creation of Manx Care remain, Manx Care says the data shows advances in engagement, empowerment and leadership.
The organisation believes staff are ready for the newly approved Manx Care Professional Senate, as colleagues “want to feel more valued and listened to” and seek “greater influence on the way things are done”.
“Overall, the survey presents a positive trajectory,” Manx Care stated, with 28 indicators the same or better than 2024.
It pledged to “continue to work sympathetically and in confidence with all our colleagues” towards being the best small island health service.
