The Information Commissioner’s Office has outlined its key priorities for the year ahead in its new 2026–27 strategy, Compliance through Collaboration.
The plan focuses on strengthening practical support for organisations as the use of personal data becomes more complex and increasingly central to the island’s economy.
Over the next year the ICO will expand hands‑on guidance for small businesses, increase work with young people on online safety, and publish advice to help organisations adopt Artificial Intelligence and other emerging technologies responsibly.
Compliance Through Collaboration
The strategy also commits to greater transparency around regulatory activity and continued collaboration across government to improve freedom of information compliance.
International work will remain a priority, particularly in responding to global threats such as non‑consensual deepfakes.
The approach was shaped by a compliance survey of 300 organisations and a follow‑up workshop involving more than 100 data professionals.
Information Commissioner Dr Alexandra Delaney‑Bhattacharya said the focus on collaboration aims to make compliance clearer and more achievable.
“This does not reduce our commitment to enforcement,” she said. “But our priority is preventing problems before they arise and giving people greater confidence in how their information is used.”
