The Isle of Man will join the UK and Commonwealth in observing a two-minute silence at noon on Friday to commemorate the 80th anniversary of Victory over Japan (VJ) Day.
A short outdoor service will be held at the National War Memorial in St John’s at 11:50am, attended by Chief Minister Alfred Cannan MHK.
He said, “It is important we remember the sacrifices made by those who served in the Far East and Pacific during the Second World War.” The public is invited to attend.
Key landmarks, including the Tower of Refuge, Legislative Buildings, and Ramsey Swing Bridge, will be illuminated in tribute.
Douglas City Council will hold a separate ceremony at Hilary Park at 10:15am.
The Douglas Town Band will perform, wreaths will be laid, and the Last Post will sound, followed by a one-minute silence.
The national silence honours those who lost their lives in the conflict, marking the official end of the Second World War.
