Pupil-led initiatives that have led community events and improved playtimes have gained a Kewaigue School a bronze ‘Investing in Children’ award.
This is the third consecutive time the school has achieved a bronze award.
Kewaigue’s twelve school councillors collected ideas from pupils in person, via a suggestion box and through class council meetings.
A recent initiative involved the school council members inviting local artists to support the children’s artwork resulting in an impressive display of paintings to celebrate the RNLI’s special 200th year of lifesaving.

Gail Jones who has facilitated this initiative, is retiring following 27 years of service to the children and Kewaigue community.
Mrs Jones, said: “It has been an absolute privilege to work alongside the children at Kewaigue School.
“They have always been enthusiastic to put forward their ideas and have worked hard to achieve this special award. They should feel very proud of themselves.”
Michelle Mylchreest, Kewaigue’s Head of School, said: “Mrs Jones and the School Council have done a sterling job of ensuring all children at Kewaigue know that their thoughts and opinions matter.
“They have provided the children with time in the curriculum to allow pupils to have their say on things important to them and this award reflects the hard work they have all put in.”
A number of Manx primary schools and one secondary school, QEII, are involved in this scheme.
