Sir Mark Cavendish would like children to bring their bikes and ride the raceway with him on Friday after his lap of honour.
Due to the bad weather forecast, Sir Mark’s lap of honour has been moved to Friday (August 16) and will start at 1pm at the NSC raceway.
The personal invitation comes from the greatest of all time racing cyclist to youngsters as part of the Island-wide invitation for everyone to celebrate his remarkable career.
It will be Sir Mark’s first visit home since he claimed a record-breaking 35th career Tour de France stage win, and the first opportunity for the Isle of Man to applaud and celebrate the Manx Missile.
Bring the Kids
The event on Friday will last about 30 minutes and it is hoped those who will be at work may be able to attend during lunch breaks.
To help ensure everyone at the raceway stays safe and has a great time, children who would like to cycle with Sir Mark on a lap of the raceway need to:
- Be able to ride two-wheel bikes without balancers or stabilisers
- Bring their helmets
- Arrive at the NSC raceway with their bikes by 12.45pm on Friday 16 August
- NSC staff will be around the track to advise spectators where to go for views of the greatest of all time racing cyclist on his lap of honour.
- Members of the public are invited to join in the event. Make it a day to remember and bring flags and banners to cheer on Sir Mark’s lap of honour.
- Spectators should arrive at the NSC raceway from 12pm. Please be in place and line the NSC raceway by 12.45pm.
- Car parking at and around the NSC will be extremely limited. Spectators are advised to travel on foot, by bus or bicycle. Bus Vannin services will be announced, highlighting the best options and times in its scheduled public timetable.
- The NSC Pool will be closed between 12pm – 2.30pm on the day
