Kate Lord-Brennan MHK

Glenfaba and Peel MHK Kate Lord-Brennan has said the island’s net zero targets need to be scrapped.

It marks a change for the MHK who brought forward the government’s interim targets in March 2022

In March 2022, Ms Lord-Brennan, introduced the and said Tynwald “simply must bring forward a target”, while calling for rationality.

In her 2021 manifesto, the MHK also said: “Transitioning to net-zero is a major challenge. Although it should present some exciting and life-enhancing opportunities, it is also nothing in absence of a plan.”

However, during today’s Budget debate, Ms Lord-Brennan said the government can’t continue to rely on reserves and has to “set parameters and reorient towards core priorities and essential services”.

She added: “Populist promotion of the day, dressed up as productive action and lecturing (yes, I am thinking about net zero isle of man) needs to be recognised as superfluous and abandoned.”
