More than 1,500 homes have been approved since 2021 but only around 670 are progressing to construction, according to the final Island Plan report.
The figures cover the five-year period to March 2026, including some sites approved before this administration.
The report highlights 37 new apartments created by the Manx Development Corporation at the former Nurses’ Home. A further 185 residential units are expected from sites supported through the Island Infrastructure Scheme.
The government has also committed to delivering at least 1,000 new affordable homes over the next decade.
Consultation
A public consultation was concluded on proposed amendments to First-Time Buyers and Shared Equity Schemes aimed at improving affordability.
A separate consultation was launched on proposed changes to public sector housing income thresholds to improve fairness in allocation.
The island’s first Objective Assessment of Housing Need has been published to provide an evidence base for future policy.
The Chief Minister accepted that not everything set out at the start of the administration had been completed.
“Some of what we started will pass to the next administration. That is the nature of government, the work is never finished,” he said.
