Leisure centre to open without traffic safety measures in place

Safety measures for traffic that may be accessing ‘The Roundhouse’ from the Noble’s site have been agreed with Braddan Commissioners, but are not yet in place.

Manx Care have issued a statement regarding the phased opening of the Braddan Commissioners ‘The Roundhouse‘ leisure centre this weekend (January 13/14).

Manx Care is advising those attending Noble’s Hospital to take extra care as there may be an increase in on-site traffic at this time.

There is currently no direct access from the main road to the leisure centre.

Lack of safety measures

Manx Care says that without these safety measures in place, there is an increased risk of collisions, and potential access problems for emergency vehicles.

It asks that any visitors take extra care on-site, and ensure that no roads are obstructed, particularly so that large emergency vehicles are able to proceed as needed.

To minimise these risks, Manx Care asks that those accessing and leaving the Braddan Leisure centre do so via the Strang Roundabout and Ballaoates Road rather than the Main Noble’s entrance.

Access

At the Strang roundabout, take the exit onto Ballaoates Road, then turn onto West Drive (the first right), drive between the Farmhouse and Grianagh Court buildings, then take the second right, following this down to the leisure centre.

The egress route will be the same in reverse.

From next week (week beginning January 15), there will be directional signage in place to advise people of this route, and installation of additional safety measures will begin.
