Licensing Powers Remain Solely With CURA

Tim Johnston MHK

The Enterprise Minister has confirmed that no changes have been made since 2010 to Manx Telecom’s code powers or licence arrangements,

He said that responsibility for granting and enforcing those powers continues to rest entirely with the island’s independent regulator.

Responding to a written question from Glenfaba & Peel MHK Kate Lord‑Brennan, Minister Tim Johnston said the Isle of Man Communications and Utilities Regulatory Authority (CURA), not Government, oversees all licensing, amendments and enforcement relating to telecommunications operators.

He stressed that CURA “exercises its regulatory functions independently of Government”, with the Department for Enterprise maintaining only a policy‑level relationship focused on strategic matters in the sector.

Responsibility for ensuring Manx Telecom complies with its licence conditions and code powers “rests solely with CURA”, the Minister said.
