Lifeboat Begins Trip to New Home

Douglas Lifeboat Station’s new boat has left Poole on the first leg of its trip to the island.

It was announced earlier this year that RNLI would introduce a Trent class lifeboat while discussions with the government continue about the long-term future of the station.

Lead by Volunteer Coxswain Peter Cowin the passage crew of CJ Petzer, Jonathan Banning, Oli Dimelow, Robert Radcliffe and two staff Coxswains let lines go at RNLI College at 9:20 this morning,

They are heading for their first stopover of Falmouth.

Peter Cowin said: “It’s a great honour to coxswain Douglas stations first 25kt lifeboat, the RNLB Betty Huntbatch.

“The training received from the College staff has been extremely well delivered and equally fun. The Crew have taken everything on board and over the next few days will get to test everything out on the passage back to Douglas.”
