Port Erin Lifeboat Station has had a busy start to 2025, with volunteer crew members achieving 14 qualifications or competencies in the first four months of the year.
John-Paul Walker attained Tier 1 Level in January, while Melissa Bills, Sam Kennaugh, and Matthew Perry were approved to go on service in March and April.
Additionally, Matthew Preston, Liam Farrar, Neil Kemp, Jason Fleming, Iain Wilkinson, Liam Lowey, Tony Mitchell, Francois Laisney, and Tom Mooney all qualified as Head Launchers—a critical shore-based role ensuring safe and efficient lifeboat operations.
Liam Farrar also made history in April, becoming Port Erin RNLI’s first certified Navigator after demonstrating expertise in chart skills, buoyage awareness, GPS use, search patterns, and local waters knowledge.

The team also welcomed Dr. John Wilmot as Lifeboat Medical Adviser in March. A GP at Castletown Surgery, Dr. Wilmot will oversee crew medicals and welfare, ensuring volunteers remain fit for lifesaving duties.
