Flights to the Isle of Man are being diverted this evening as Manx.News understands the island’s airport will not be extending its operating hours.
Loganair’s London City to Isle of Man flight diverted to Liverpool and landed there at around 8.30pm.
Passengers on board the flight were told that they [the crew] were “sorry but we have bad news will have to divert to Liverpool as the Isle of Man Airport is closing early and we have to divert to Liverpool”.
The unscheduled arrival at Liverpool meant the aircraft was parked on a remote stand and passengers had to wait some time for buses.
As of 9.35pm, passengers were still waiting for luggage and arrangements are being made for hotel rooms to be allocated and further information about their flight back to Ronaldsway.
EasyJet returns to Gatwick
It comes as the EasyJet London Gatwick to Isle of Man flight was also diverted – the aircraft was over Luton when the decision was made to return back to Gatwick.
Both airlines say that the reasons are due to Air Traffic Control restrictions ‘at the destination airport’.
It is not yet known why the Isle of Man airport is not extending its operational hours this evening.
