The government’s long‑term strategy for residential, nursing and respite care will not move forward until after a Tynwald debate in May.
Ramsey MHK Lawrie Hooper had asked the Health and Social Care Minister Claire Christian MHK when the next stage of the strategy would be brought to Tynwald.
In her written reply, the Minister said work on a standalone strategy “has not yet commenced in full”, as it depends on two major pieces of groundwork: the Ageing Well Joint Strategic Needs Assessment and the Nursing, Residential and Home Care Funding Review.
Public Health has now published the JSNA, and the Funding Review has been brought forward to the Council of Ministers.
A workshop for Tynwald Members will take place in April, ahead of the review being presented to the May sitting.
The Health Minister said the review is essential to determining the service model on which any long‑term care strategy must be built.
The timeframe for progressing the strategy will be reassessed once the May debate has taken place.
