The High Court has rejected an application by Paul Bell to appeal to the UK’s Judicial Committee of the Privy Council.
Judge of Appeal Anthony Cross KC dismissed the request, upholding an earlier decision from May that refused Mr Bell permission to challenge a ruling in his doleance claim.
Mr Bell had argued that the court misapplied section 21 of the Criminal Justice Act 1991, but Justice Cross found his grounds had “no real prospect of success” and raised “no new arguments”.
The court also ruled it had no jurisdiction to permit the appeal.
In a separate ruling, Mr Bell was ordered to pay £28,114 in legal costs to the Solicitor General’s office. The judge deemed the sum “proportionate and reasonable”.
