Manx Care Leaders Thank Hooper

Lawrie Hooper MHK

Manx Care has expressed its thanks to Lawrie Hooper following his resignation of Minister for the Department of Health and Social Care.

Manx Care CEO Teresa Cope and Chair Dr Wendy Reid thanked Mr Hooper for “his support, wise guidance and challenge during the inception and early years of our development”.

The pair say they have “valued his insight and clarity on many issues”.

Manx Care says it “will continue to strive for the best quality health and care possible for the people of the Isle of Man while delivering value for money”.

Hooper Resigns

Yesterday (October 15), Health and Social Care Minister Lawrie Hooper resigned.

The Liberal Vannin leader had served as DHSC Minister for all of the current admission, with the exception of the brief period he was moved to Enterprise.

He has been publicly critical of the underfunding of the health and social care service in recent months and made fairly clear his feelings that the cuts Manx Care have made have been driven by Treasury and the Chief Minister.

Mr Hooper has said that he does not believe in the direction the government is heading in and said quitting is the “only card I have left to play”.

Since the announcement, Chief Minister Alfred Cannan has assigned himself as Health Minister for a “limited period”.
