Former Health Minister Lawrie Hooper is to challenge this year’s Mandate to Manx Care in Tynwald.
He will move a motion at the April sitting which will call the mandate and Manx Care’s Operating Plan “inadequate”.
The Lib Vannin leader will ask members to support the replacing the mandate and plan with ones that “do not place such significant restrictions and curtailments on frontline services”.
He also wants to see plans that ensure recommendations from independent inspections, such as those by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) and the Office for Standards in Education, Children’s Services and Skills (OFSTED), are fully implemented.
The Ramsey MHK says this should be brought for debate seeking Tynwald approval at the July 2026 sitting of Tynwald.
Unacceptable
His motion says the mandate and plan are “inadequate” and that “they place on the people of the Island an unacceptable reduction in services”.
Mr Hooper has previously described the mandate as possibly the “biggest assault on NHS care the island has ever seen”.
The mandate is due to be debated next week when it is brought to Tynwald by DHSC Minister Claire Christian.
However, MHKs will not to vote on the mandate at this juncture.
