One of the Isle of Man’s most important traditional dance books, The Leighton Stowell Book of Manx Dances, is now freely available online.
The release includes its accompanying music, more than 40 years after the book was first published.
Released by Culture Vannin, the digital launch includes the full 1981 book and the music recordings first issued on cassette in 1989, featuring many leading Manx musicians.
Long regarded as a key reference for Manx dancers, the publication contains instructions for some of the island’s most iconic dances, while the audio provides music for both learning and performance.
By putting these resources online, Culture Vannin aims to open up access to Manx dancing worldwide and encourage new generations to discover and take part in the island’s rich dance tradition.
