On January 20 and 21, darts players Darren Kennish and Callum Brew represented the Isle of Man in the World Disability Darts Cymru Classic and Cymru Open competitions in Cwmbran in South Wales.
Darren, who is a very experienced player, competed in the wheelchair events and made the final in the Classic and the semi-finals in the Open.
Callum, who is a relative newcomer, took part in the standing events and won his group on both days before narrowly missing out in the last 16 knockout rounds.
Manx darts players
Kirk Michael resident Kevin Lane went on to compete in the final stages of PDC’s Q School, finishing a respectable 71st on the order of merit.
Lane finished just below professional darts players Fallon Sherrock (64th) and above TV pundit and 3 time World Champion John “Dart Maple” Part (79th) .
Although this sadly wasn’t enough to see him earn a prestigious tour card and entry to the pro-tour events.
Lane may feature on Sky TV
During the event held in Milton Keynes filming was underway for a recently commissioned three part documentary titled “Darts” for Sky.
The film crew closely followed Lane through the preliminary rounds and the finals in order to show the journey players take to make it onto the big events such as the World Championship held at Alexandra Palace each December.
Lane now goes on to compete in the PDC Challenge Tour, competing in 24 events over the year, for another chance to win that coveted tour card.
