Over this coming weekend the Manx National 2 Day Trial celebrates its 70th anniversary with organisers playing host to over 250 competitors from all over the British isles competing across Solo and Sidecar classes.
First held in September 1955 for fans visiting the island for the Manx Grand Prix races at the end of August, the event moved to a July date in 2017.
This year solo competitors head to the south of the island on the first day, with the sidecars heading north, the first riders leaving Douglas Rugby Club at 8am.
Saturday
The first test for the solos will be on the Gas Works steps, a location that returns to the event after a long absence and provides a spectacular and accessible way to see some action early in the day.
They will then continue with further groups of observed sections at locations such as Knock Froy, Scarlett, Pooil Vaaish, Glen Rushen, South Barrule Quarry and Kings Forest, finishing the day back at Douglas Rugby Club.
Meanwhile the sidecars will head out of Douglas with early groups at Ballacarrooin (opposite Conrhenny Plantation) before moving on to sections at Axnfell, Dhoon Quarry and Creg y Cowin amongst others.
Sunday
On Sunday the solos start the day with sections at West Baldwin before heading to groups such as Ballaugh Plantation, Tholt y Will Quarry, Ballure Plantation and Snubby’s Glen before eventually ending up back at Douglas Rugby Club.
The sidecars meanwhile start their day at Glen Lough before heading to Watertrough Park (next to Laser Mayhem), Knockaloe, Ballacraine, Knock Froy with a final section back at Douglas Rugby Club.

Leading the field in the Solo class is twice winner Tom Swindlehurst from Cumbria. Riding a 300 Scorpa machine, he goes into the weekend a favorite following strong performances in other National events this season.
He will be challenged by reigning local champion Barry Kinley, with the Andreas man hoping to add to his previous victories from 2016 & 2017.
Leading the way in the Sidecars will be the local pairing of Jack Corlett/Ealish Baxter, aiming to repeat their 2024 win.
Signing on for riders, observers and marshals takes place at Douglas Rugby Club on Friday 11th July from 6.30pm.
Programmes for spectators are available to buy from The Welcome Centre at the Sea Terminal, Juan Knight Off Road in Sulby, Road and Track Motorcycles in Douglas and Station Garage in Castletown.
