Three of the island’s top young sprinters launched their outdoor track seasons at the Wavertree Open Meeting in Liverpool on Sunday.
Georgia Price, Andrea Ecolango and Finlay Taggart braved conditions more like mid‑winter than spring.
Competing in freezing temperatures, hailstorms and torrential rain, the trio pushed through a disrupted programme that included a 20 minute delay after the track flooded.
Despite the chaos, all three delivered strong early‑season performances.
Finlay claimed victory in the U18 200m and finished second in the 100m. In the U20 events, Georgia won the 100m and took second in the 200m, while Andrea placed second in the 100m and third in the 200m.
After enduring one of the harshest season openers in recent memory, the athletes, and their coach Martin Bullock, will be hoping the weather finally remembers it’s meant to be spring.
