Mary’s Win Battle of the Saints

Mark Wolfenden scores for St Mary’s

St George’s bid to avoid relegation suffered a setback on Saturday as they lost 2-5 at home to St Mary’s.

Corinthians also suffered a blow to their title hopes with a shock 2-3 defeat at home to Foxdale.

At Glencrtuchery Road Frank Jones broke the deadlock for Mary’s with a looping effort that left Ben Wilkinson with no chance.

It was 0-4 by half time as Joe Bergquist, Mark Wolfenden got on the scoresheet before Jones got his second on the stroke of half time.

Ed Kangah reduced the deficit in the second half but Geordies were unable to find more before Owen Canipa added a fifth for Mary’s late on.

Chris Bass Jnr scored with the final kick of the game but it was too little too late as the visitors ran out comfortable winners.

Title Race

Foxdale dealt a massive blow to Corinthians on Saturday as Jay Charmer and a Jason Chatwood brace secured a 2-3 win at Ballafletcher.

Late goals from Josh Ridings and Dan Simpson gave Corinthians a chance to steal a point but it wasn’t to be as Foxdale picked up a deserved win.

At Douglas Road Rushen held Peel to a 1-1 draw in the Old Firm clash.

Taylor Andrews gave the westerners the lead in the 10th minute with Ste Riding equalising on the hour. Despite the Spaniards pushing for a late winner, Peel held on to extend their lead at the top to four points.

Battle of Onchan

A “20 man brawl” broke out at Onchan v St John’s as tempers flared in the Canada Life Premier League clash.

St John’s won the game 0-4 after referee Neshko Marinov sent off two players in the aftermath of the incident which has been widely circulated on WhatsApp groups.

The other games in the top flight saw Ayre cruise to a 7-0 over Marown while Laxey lost 1-5 at home to Ramsey.
