Ramsey Commissioner Juan McGuinness has announced he will stand for the House of Keys in September’s General Election.
The lifelong Ramsey resident has served on the local authority for ten years and now wants to take “the next step” to national politics.
Mr McGuinness has spent nearly two decades working in financial services compliance, a role he says is built on “standards, accountability, and asking the right questions.”
He said: “After 10 years serving Ramsey as a Town Commissioner, I’ve decided the time is right to take the next step, which is why I intend to stand for Ramsey in the upcoming House of Keys election this September.”
Approach
Mr McGuinness said his experience on the town board had shown him how decisions affect people “in practice, not just how they look on paper.”
He pledged to bring a “more questioning approach” to the Keys, adding: “I don’t think government works best when everything is agreed too easily.”
Mr McGuinness said he will spend the coming months listening to voters across the town.
“Whether it’s the cost of living, healthcare, housing, or anything else on your mind, I’m keen to hear your views,” he said.

So far Mr McGuinness is the only candidate to confirm for Ramsey, but sitting MHKs Dr Alex Allinson and Lawrie Hooper have indicated they will stand again in the summer.
