A well-known figure in the Isle of Man’s mental health community, Steve Hobbs, is at the heart of a new fundraising campaign.
The campaign which has been launched by his daughter, Jules Hobbs Bott, is to provide much-needed respite care for Steve and his wife, Jan.
Steve dedicated almost 40 years of his career to supporting others through his work in mental health services on the island, spanning adult trauma, community services, inpatient care, and Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS).
A registered Mental Health Nurse, Specialist Nurse Practitioner, Non-Medical Prescriber, and psychotherapist, and the founder of SHINE Psychotherapies.
He is best remembered by many for his passion for breaking down the stigma surrounding mental health.
Steve Needs Your Help
In November 2022, Steve’s life changed dramatically when he suffered a devastating accident that left him mostly paralysed from the shoulders down.
After over a year in hospital, he has since been cared for at home by his wife, Jan.
While the couple have shown remarkable strength and resilience, after more than two years of daily caregiving, Jan’s health has begun to suffer, and she now urgently needs a period of rest and recovery.
To make this possible, Jules and her family are raising funds to cover at least two weeks of specialist respite care for Steve, ensuring he receives the dignified support he needs while Jan takes vital time to restore her own health.
Giving Back to Steve
“My dad has given so much to others over his career — teaching, supporting, and inspiring people across the Isle of Man. Now it’s our turn to give back to him,” says Jules.
The family hope the island’s community — many of whom will have known or worked alongside Steve — will join them in their efforts to raise the funds needed.
The fundraiser can be found on GoFundMe here.
