Tynwald is to be asked to call on the government to report on strategies for planning, affordable housing, and active travel at the Westmoreland Village development.
Douglas Central MHK Chris Thomas, has tabled the motion, calling for transparency on the Manx Development Corporation’s (MDC) project.
His motion states: “That Tynwald calls for Government to lay a report for debate at the July 2025 Tynwald sitting regarding the application of strategies and policies for: planning; affordable housing; and active travel and parking at the Westmoreland Village development site.”
Additionally, it requires the Department of Environment, Food and Agriculture, Department of Infrastructure, and the Treasury to present any proposed heads of terms for legal agreements before Tynwald for approval.
The motion follows public scrutiny over housing affordability and infrastructure planning given the controversial development is planned to be built with few parking spaces, with nearby residents demanding that no permits are issued for their roads.
Concerns have also been raised over whether the MDC owns the whole site it intends to develop.
Tynwald sits on Tuesday June 17.
