The chairman of Manx Utilities says it is complying with all legislation after questions about a French court ruling that forced a wind farm there to be switched off.
Jason Moorhouse MHK raised concerns in Keys over the case, which found inadequate environmental impact assessments had failed to protect endangered species.
Manx Utilities chairman John Wannenburgh MHK told members: “Manx Utilities ensure that any infrastructure development follows due process in compliance with ruling legislation.”

He confirmed the island’s onshore wind farm project would follow UK best practice, with EIAs reviewed by independent experts.
Mr Moorhouse pressed further, asking if the ruling’s implications had been discussed by the board.
However, Mr Wannenburgh stated: “Until the EIA is complete, it is not possible to determine whether there are any impacts and how they will be mitigated.”
He noted that smaller turbine designs, unlike those in France, could reduce risks to wildlife.
Chris Thomas MHK highlighted the legal consequences in the French case, where EDF’s boss faced a suspended sentence and €100,000 fine.
Mr Wannenburgh said that despite this, he confirmed the board had not discussed personal liability.
Mr Moorhouse also questioned whether submitting the planning application before the EIA’s completion could threaten the project if seasonal shutdowns were required.
Mr Wannenburgh replied: “That level of operation or analysis I’m not aware of,” but stressed it would be addressed in the ongoing assessment.
