Enterprise Minister Tim Johnston has defended the green audit of motorsport events after Middle MHK Stu Peters questioned its cost and priority.
The audit examined TT Races, Classic TT, Manx Grand Prix and Southern 100.
“The sustainability audit is considered a priority,” said Mr Johnston, “both in ensuring the Department complies with its statutory duties and in influencing future strategic decisions around the Island’s road racing events.”
“This partnership helped return the equivalent cost of the audit back into the public purse via sponsorship funding,” the Minister explained, referencing the TT’s deal with sustainability partner PE.
Conducted by Aether, the review followed Climate Change Act 2021 requirements.
“This work will bring direct and long-term benefits to Isle of Man residents,” said Mr Johnston, noting it would help “protect and preserve natural resources, biodiversity, and the unique environment that defines the island’s character.”
The Minister emphasised the audit’s strategic value: “By incorporating sustainability into long-term decision-making, the government can ensure road racing events remain viable and beneficial to the island’s economy while addressing broader climate objectives.”
