The DoI says some mobility scooter users will soon be able to use one bus route around Douglas.
Class 2 scooter owners wishing to be involved are being invited to fill in an application form before taking part in boarding/alighting checks and awareness training.
Once this has been completed, an identification card will be provided to enable travel on the route 21 service, which operates in a loop between Lord Street, Pulrose, Anagh Coar, Noble’s Hospital, Vicarage Road and the Isle of Man Business Park.
Dawn Kinnish MLC said: “The new service will ensure greater inclusivity and allow Bus Vannin to gather data from the user experience to help inform how services may look in the future.
“Bus Vannin is continually working towards improving accessibility and the Accessibility Steering Group welcomes comments and feedback so that future service delivery can be improved.”
Referring to work being undertaken by Highway Services to further support those with mobility issues, Mrs Kinnish added: “The project to install an additional 30 Kassel kerbs across the Island over the next year is welcomed.
“These will provide step-free access between buses and pavements at suitable bus stops. The raised kerbs are designed to assist those with mobility or access needs and also include a tactile finish to help people with a visual impairment.”
