Government’s latest figures show that the island has the fewest GPs it has had at any point since 2012 and has an average of 2,689 patients per GP.
In the ‘Isle of Man in Numbers’ report, it shows that in 2024 the Isle of Man had 33.2 GPs, with the highest levels of patients since 2012.
Whereas, the date revealed that in 2012 the island had 45 GPs with an average of 1,936 patients per GP.
Decline in Services
Over the past 12 years, the number of GPs on the island has fluctuated, and it was in during 2016 where the decline became more apparent, with a slight increase in 2021.
However, from 2021 onwards the number of GPs on island has plummeted from 41.8 to 32.2.
As the GP numbers have decreased, the population has increased with doctors now having an additional 753 patients per GP.
