Manx Care’s Mortuary Team were invited to The Chief Constable’s Awards Ceremony to receive the Community Partnership Initiative Award.
Ian Hughes, Dr Ervine Long (retired), Natasha Stephenson and Gary Thomas were invited to the ceremony to receive their award.
The team were nominated for their excellent service in what can be very traumatic circumstances.
The Mortuary Team were commended for their organised and accommodating service, their professionalism and willingness to be available out of hours, their compassion and sensitivity when working with family members and loved ones and the commitment to respect and compassion for bereaved families.

The Isle of Man Chief Constable said of the Mortuary Team: “Their professionalism is exemplary, but what is not seen by the majority are the long hours of work the team undertake and the care provided.
“The respect and compassion they show has been highlighted by bereaved loved ones on many an occasion. In recent major incidents, they have not hesitated to come in and assist us out of hours, with little to no notice.”
Ian Hughes, Mortuary Manager was humbled by the nomination and subsequent award: “We are in an honourable position to be trusted in looking after all the patients that come into our care. This includes hospital patients and the wider community.
“I would like to thank my team members, past and present. I am lucky to have such a dedicated, studious and respectful individuals to work alongside.”
