Mountain Road to Close For Works

A section of the Mountain Road will be closed next week to allow for treatment near Keppel Gate.

The DoI says the road will shut between Creg Ny Baa and the Bungalow on Tuesday July 8 from 9:30am to 4:30pm.

A spokesperson said: “This closure is necessary to facilitate road surface treatment in the vicinity of Keppel Gate.

“A specialist UK-based contractor will carry out captive shot blasting, a well-established and cost-effective technique used to re-profile the aggregate within the road surface.”

The process aims to enhance skid resistance, particularly in wet conditions. “This treatment is being undertaken to improve safety for all road users,” the Department confirmed.

Works are expected to be completed in one day, weather permitting but contingency days have been set in place for the rest of the week.

Access to the Bungalow, Snaefell Mountain Railway, and both cafés will remain available via Ramsey and Tholt Y Will. The Creg Ny Baa can be reached via Hillberry and the Creg Back Road.
