MUA Defends Windfarm Engagement

Manx Utilities has defended its public engagement strategy for the proposed Cair Vie Windfarm, stating it has followed “best practice” guidelines.

In response to a question from Arbory, Rushen & Castletown MHK Jason Moorhouse, Chair John Wannenburgh said that consultation has been “undertaken in line with the project’s stage of development”.

The utility said it adopted a “proportionate consultation strategy aligned with best practice” under the Town & Country Planning Act 1990 framework.

Island-wide consultation events were held in October 2024, with project officers and specialist consultants present. Online engagement and feedback opportunities were also provided.

Assessment

Mr Wannenburgh stated: “Feedback received has informed the ongoing design process and the preparation of the Environmental Impact Assessment, which will accompany any future planning application.”

He added: “Further engagement within the constituency will be undertaken at the appropriate stage of the project, and that commitment remains in place.”

The windfarm proposal remains in the pre-planning application phase, with a full Environmental Impact Assessment being prepared.
