MUA v DEFA Over Price of Earystane Land

Freedom of Information releases have revealed disagreements amongst the government over land access and valuation for the Earystane wind farm project.

Officials clashed last year and earlier this year over whether the transfer of forestry land should be at nominal value or market rate.

A Treasury valuation officer stated: “The transfers shall be at nominal value if there is to be no change of use,” while DEFA maintained the plantation had “inherent value in the timber to be harvested”.

The documents show frustration over transparency, with one official remarking: “If the whole thing was less secretive then it would all be easier to advise upon.”
