Manx Wildlife Trust has announced an island-wide seal survey using thermal imaging drones.
The charity previously conducted an aerial survey of the island’s wallaby population.
The project aims to provide accurate data on local seal populations and contribute to wider conservation efforts across the British Isles.
“This groundbreaking approach will give us an accurate picture of our local seal populations and feed into wider research across the British Isles, even contributing to international conservation through OSPAR,” said MWT.
MWT said the initiative marks a significant advancement in marine wildlife protection.
The Trust acknowledged the vital support of its partners, stating: “It simply wouldn’t be possible without the incredible support from our partners: Thank you to Curraghs Wildlife Park, KPMG, and SeaChangers.”
