On Saturday (May 18), 290 runners will be participating in the Children’s Centre 100-mile relay, Race the Sun.
The fundraising event, sponsored by Atla Group, completes a lap of the Isle of Man coastal footpath between sunrise and sunset.
Manx.News popped down to the charity and spoke to CEO of the Children’s Centre, Joff Whitten, who told us all about the brilliant services the charity offers and how you can get involved.
Race the Sun
The event starts on Peel promenade bright and early at 5:10am, and the race is split between a team of ten with the aim of completing the lap around the island before the sun sets at 9:22pm.
Not only is it a brilliant sporting and team event, but also a fantastic fundraising event for the Children’s centre, which each year has to raise a minimum of £1 million to continue to operate and provide its invaluable service to young people on the island.
Joff Whitten has thanked everyone involved for their support of the Children’s Centre and the event: “I just wanted to say a big thanks to all the teams who have entered this year, and thanks to their families and friends helping them on the day or preparing for the event.
“We have asked everyone involved to do their very best to raise as much money for the charity as possible, it’s the reason we organise The Children’s Centre Race the Sun.
“We aren’t funded by contracts or the government so we entirely reliant upon the generosity of the Manx public – helping us to provide the incredible services we do for children and families.
