A new short film celebrating the Isle of Man’s deep connection to the sea and the long history of the RNLI has been released online.
Memories of the RNLI with Alex Maddrell, a 21‑minute documentary by Manx filmmaker Neil Corlett, blends personal storytelling, archive photographs and striking drone footage of Port St Mary and the surrounding coastline.
The film explores Alex Maddrell’s lifelong relationship with the sea and his decades of voluntary service with the Port St Mary Lifeboat.

The project was supported by a Culture Vannin grant, and the organisation has now published the full film on its website and YouTube channel.
Corlett, who has worked internationally but remains committed to Manx projects, said he hoped the film captures the Island’s unique bond with the sea and the people who dedicate their lives to safeguarding it.
Culture Vannin’s Operations Officer, Becky McSevney, said the organisation was delighted to support a film that tells a story important not only to Port St Mary but to coastal communities across the island.
The film now sits alongside more than 1,700 videos on Culture Vannin’s platforms, all celebrating Manx culture, history, language and community life.
