A separate space for women experiencing complications in early pregnancy has been opened at Noble’s Hospital.
The Early Pregnancy Assessment Unit (EPAU) is a space dedicated to supporting families through the critical early stages of pregnancy.
It will allow women to be assessed and treated in a location separate to other maternity patients.
A separate entrance and exit has been created for the unit away from the main hospital entrance.
Bluebell Suite
The Bluebell Suite, in the same unit, has been designed specifically for parents experiencing miscarriage and baby loss.
The cosy, welcoming space was designed by Vicky Christian, a Manx resident who sadly experienced multiple miscarriages and a complicated pregnancy between 2018 and 2020.
She said: “These new facilities represent a real commitment to change. They symbolise the dedication to providing the highest standard of care, not only medically but also emotionally.
“Thank you for being here today as we embark on this vital journey of hope, healing and renewed dedication to compassionate care.”
Friends of Noble’s Hospital
Both spaces were funded by the Friends of Noble’s Hospital, with matching support from the Scheinberg family.
Kevin Kneen from the Friends of Noble’s said: “The true need for the unit was clearly explained to us, and the passion to develop the unit was understood by us all, making it an easy decision to agree to fund this space.”
Teresa Cope, Manx Care’s CEO, officially opened the EPAU saying it was a “first step in a positive change for the island”
