From Monday (June 10) the next phase of work of the Laxey River flood defences will start.
There is an 8 week programme planned to reinforce the existing riverside walls in the vicinity of Victoria Terrace on Glen Road.
The Principal Contractor, Paul Carey & Sons Ltd will be using the access gate upstream from Victoria Terrace to enter the river.

Ahead of the Principal Contractor starting on site, the river will be “de-fished” in the area of the works by our colleagues in the Inland Waters Team at DEFA.
Any fish found thereabout will be relocated elsewhere in the river where they won’t be further disturbed.
DEFA have allowed the DOI to work in the river at a time when it won’t impact on spawning or migratory fish. Working practices have been agreed with DEFA to avoid a detrimental impact on the flora and fauna in the river.
Avoid parking
Glen Road will remain open to traffic and through traffic won’t be affected by these works.
The public are asked though to avoid parking in the immediate area of the access gate to ensure that works won’t be held up.
The Garff Commissioners’ car park opposite Laxey Football Club will used as a site compound.
All recycling bins will be temporarily relocated to the opposite side of the road, to the DOI Depot with full public access.
