Next up in the Tesco takeover of shoprite is… the Port Erin store!
The Shoprite store in the south of the island will be closing at 9pm on Saturday, March 16.
The closest Tesco Express store is at Arbory Street in Castletown which opened a few weeks ago.
Shoprite said: “It’s been a pleasure to serve you in this store and we hope you’ll enjoy shopping in it when it reopens as a brand new Tesco store in May.”
Tesco takeover introduces Manx produce
Noa says it is ‘super duper proud’ to see its bread being sold in Tesco.
The bakery is the latest Manx brand to be added to the supermarket giant’s shelves after its Shoprite takeover.
The bread was wheeled in on an old clothing rail from Betty Red, which was a dress shop on Strand Street in the early 2000s.
Tesco has added Fynoderee gins and Davisons Ice Cream to its range of Manx produce.
The supermarket giant said it would look to stock more Manx produce after concerns were raised when it bought Shoprite.
Fynoderee has been celebrating its gins going on sale in the company’s Lakeside Road store with a tasting stall over the weekend.
It said: ‘We are so grateful to Andy [Sanderson, store director] and Nigel at Tesco for welcoming us so warmly and for championing local products! Exciting times.’
Davisons also posted on Facebook, saying it hoped that its first delivery week is the ‘first of many to come’.
Tesco has previously stocked Manx meet including beef, pork and lamb and committed to working with the Manx government and producers after concerns were raised about the future of the Isle of Man’s food production following its takeover of Shoprite.
