The abolition of NHS England will not fundamentally impact the Isle of Man’s healthcare contracts with UK NHS Trusts, Chief Minister Alf Cannan has told MHKs.
Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer announced that NHS England will be wound up with its powers reverting back to the UK’s DHSC.
Responding to a question from MHK Julie Edge Mr Cannan said: “Given these changes are aimed at national and regional management structures, we do not expect at this stage to see any fundamental changes to our relationships or contracts with the NHS Trusts that assist in serving the people of the Isle of Man.”
Ms Edge raised concerns about framework agreements negotiated by NHS England, which Manx Care relies on.
“Has there been any consideration to the possible impacts utilising framework agreements going forward with arm’s-length bodies?” she asked.
Mr Cannan acknowledged the uncertainty but stressed: “Until you see that detail, we are unable to comment as to whether there will be any impact on the island.”
He pledged to keep members updated and agreed to provide a list of UK Trusts working with Manx Care.
