No Commercial Agreements for Windfarm

The Treasury Minister has told MHKs that no binding commercial agreements are in place for the proposed Cair Vie windfarm.

Responding to questions in Keys, Dr Alex Allinson confirmed the project is still in its development phase.

“There have been no commercial arrangements undertaken by Manx Utilities with any firm providing the equipment to operate the windfarm,” he said.

“Nothing has been purchased, nothing. Nothing is in storage on the island.”

Finance

The confirmation came after queries from MHK Chris Thomas, who referenced “quite extensive discussions about finance lease for this project”.

To date £3.768m from the project development fund has been approved for design and feasibility work, with £2.883m drawn down by Manx Utilities as of March 31.

The minister said that this expenditure is for developing the planning application and environmental impact surveys.

Dr Allinson emphasised that any future procurement and financing would follow standard procedure and would require Tynwald approval.
