Members of the Isle of Man Fire and Rescue Service have been training to assist our equine neigh-bours for if and undoubtably when they get themselves into trouble.
As a keen horse lover, I can say with confidence that even if you make the safest conditions for your horse, they will still, somehow, be able to cause havoc and either injure themselves or get stuck.
Don’t ask me how or why; they just do. My poor bank account knows this from the never-ending vet bills.
It is the most welcoming and lovely news to see that fire crews from the technical rescue teams have been busy training for animal rescue in the unfortunate event that one of our money drains (horses) gets into trouble.
A helping hoof
The crews have had a helping hoof from training tool Smokey, The Station Horse.
Smokey has helped the crews in recreating scenarios that the service may be presented with, but there is still a lot more involved in helping and handling a live horse.
This is where our brilliant friends the Isle Of Man Home of Rest for Old Horses. Reg Charity no 620 has trotted on in to help, introduced team members to equine residents, and shared their knowledge and experience.
Sorry for all the horse puns, I got excited.
